Government Run Higher Education Institution (HEIs) were not happy about their ranking in QS World University Ranking and The Times Higher Education Worlds University Ranking. In 2015, Parliament Winter Session Smriti Irani, who was the education minister had highlighted the causes of the poor performances in the Global League table to the subjective methodology. She attributed that the criteria used by the agencies to rank universities are largely depends on the perception of select group of people

Once upon a time China had also gone through the similar problem, thereafter they came up with their own University Ranking System which is known as The Sanghai Ranking. It is initiated by Sanghai Jiao Tong University in 2003.Making it the first Global University Ranking with multifarious Indicators. In the fist edition of Sanghai Ranking, nine Chinees universities and three from India got placed in the top 500 ranking.
