Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) is a non-profit organisation working with the mandate for a humane social order based on truth, justice, freedom and equity. Established in 1960, IGSSS works for development, capacity building and enlightenment of the vulnerable communities across the country for their effective participation in development.

IGSSS implements and supports quality development programmes in 22 States and 1 Union Territory in India to empower individuals and communities. Through its programmes on Sustainable Livelihood, Disaster Risk Reduction, Gender Equality, Urban Poverty Reduction and Youth Development, IGSSS has reached out to more than One Lakh families every year. The Programmes at IGSSS are targeted towards the poor, marginalized and vulnerable sections of the society with special emphasis on women and children.

Thematic Lead: Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change

To lead the strategic development of organizational portfolio (programs and capacities ) on reducing poverty of the most vulnerable populations by fostering environmentally sustainable development and improving the capacity to cope with climate change

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Lead the strategy formulation and development of new programs on climate change and environmental sustainability.
  2. Development of new concept on the environmental sustainability and support in incubation of new ideas to address the issue of climate change.
  3. Provide technical support to existing and new programmes by giving directions, troubleshooting and expert help to achieve the programme objectives.
  4. Ensure the enhancement of knowledge and skills of partners and IGSSS staff on CCA
  5. Contribute to thematic Knowledge management efforts in the organization through research, documentation of best practices and dissemination of findings at various platforms and media.
  6. Lead the policy advocacy and networking efforts of the organisation and represent IGSSS on various platforms.

Core competencies required

  1. Experience working with government officials at State, and/or National level
  2. Conceptual and practical knowledge on Climate Change related concepts, theories, policies and practices.
  3. Ability to carry out impacts studies and review of CCA interventions that guide decisions on strategic programme directions
  4. Ability to develop concepts and proposal for expansion and integration of CCA into other programmes
  5. Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
  6. Willing to travel extensively

Qualifications and experience

  1. Master’s Degree in Development Studies/Social Sciences, Botany, Forestry or equivalent. with experience in climate change, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and Environment
  2. Minimum 5+ years’ experience in managing Climate Change Adaptation and environment/ ecology programme
