Manager Analytics, Reach to Teach

About the Project

The Government of Gujarat launched an ambitious, pathbreaking programme called “Gunotsav” or “Celebrating Quality” in 2009, which focused on ensuring quality education for students in government schools. This was done by evaluating the quality of primary education imparted, including the grading of schoolteachers.

Gunotsav established an accountability framework for ensuring the quality of primary education, by tracking learning outcomes, as well as the co-scholastic activities of children, the use of resources and community participation.

Gunotsav was rolled out state-wide in two phases. In the first phase, self-evaluation was carried out in 34,177 primary schools, including all Government Primary Schools, Ashram Schools and Granted Schools.

Relaunched as ‘Gunotsav2.0’ in its second phase, the programme is now focusing on improving the quality of education imparted to children, through a process of school accreditation.
