Position Overview:
Municipal solid waste management is a burning issue in India. Proper disposal of MSW is still a distant dream. Open waste burning is, also, a contributing factor in air pollution in Indian cities. WRI India is seeking Intern(s) to work with and support our Streets for all Program in the country under the Sustainable Cities department. WRI globally has thorough experience in sustainable cities sector across several topic areas and is widely recognized as a leader on these issues.
WRI India requires a self-motivated, smart, detail oriented and highly organized individual to support its Sustainable Cities department as an Intern. This is a position for someone seeking to work in waste management and air quality management.
Responsibilities
  • Identify current municipal waste management practice and status in Surat.
  • Do a bottom-up estimation of waste burning frequency in the different land use pattern/SES (socioeconomic status) level in cities.
  • Assessment and estimation of the composition of burn waste.
  • Exploration of waste burning frequency, mass, and composition in the different land use pattern/Socio-Economic Status level in cities
  • Master’s degree in a Science subject (Environmental Science preferable), but students having interest in air quality/waste management are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge on usage of GPS instrument.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, global workplace.
  • A flexible individual who can work independently, with little direction and supervision.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Interns need to bring their own laptops and arrange for internet infield (for basic communication).
